Telemetry freshness and false positives

Monitoring systems become dangerous when missing data is presented as reassuring, or normal spikes are automatically interpreted as hostile.

Define freshness

Every signal should identify its source and observation time. A disconnected collector is not the same as a quiet server.

Use workload baselines

Traffic from scheduled backups, promotions, crawlers and client reconnects can legitimately create bursts. Compare patterns with normal host activity.

Start in observation mode

Validate policy thresholds without enforcing broad blocks. An event review should retain policy context and show the evidence behind the decision.

Do not over-trust dashboards

Charts are presentation. The underlying timestamps, measured signals and collector health determine how much confidence an operator should place in them.
